Friendships and socializing through technology

Établissement : Université d'Ottawa ()

Description du cours

Easier internet access may be the key to a tech revolution. Communicating through technology may be positive in adolescents' existing friendships [1-3], due to the ability to maintain their offline friendships [4], as well as being a space where their psychological needs (e.g., relatedness, positive-emotions, and enjoyment) can be met [5]. The potential harms of technology use among youth can include exploitation [6], interpersonal difficulties [7], as well as potentially addictive features [8]. This course will cover social technologies from a theoretical basis, incorporating student perspectives and thoughts. The course will end with resources for more information or support.
