Course Description

This course provides insight into the definitions and scale of sports events, with a focus on the governance theories of mega-events like the Olympics and FIFA World Cup. Key principles, guidelines, and standards essential for managing these large-scale events will be covered. It also explores how mascots capture the spirit of mega-events, serving as symbols that warmly welcome athletes and visitors alike. Additionally, the course examines the roles of various stakeholders in event governance, discussing the benefits, challenges, controversies, potential solutions, and lasting legacy of these global events.

Please note : This mini-course will not take place on the main campus of the University of Ottawa, but at the Lees campus.

Biography

Student of sociology of sport at the University of Ottawa, with an interest in mega sports events. In my home country, I have been involved in several research projects and collaborations with the National University Sport Federation and the National Olympic Academy.
