Course Description

Bridges: Design, Build, Test! is an interactive mini-course where participants dive into the fundamentals of bridge engineering. Through hands-on activities, students learn about structural principles, materials, and design processes, ultimately applying their knowledge to create their own model bridges. The course culminates in a friendly competition, where participants test their designs and receive certificates for outstanding performance. By the end, students will have gained foundational skills in engineering design, problem-solving, and teamwork, along with an understanding of the practical considerations in bridge construction.

Biography

I am a second-year master’s student in civil engineering at the University of Ottawa, driven by a strong passion for sharing engineering knowledge with diverse audiences. I have over a year of experience as a Teaching Assistant and had the opportunity to teach Bridges: Design, Build, Test! as a mini-course in May 2024. The course received substantial attention and appreciation for its educational value, engaging approach, and competitive component, where students had the chance to earn winning certificates. The positive response reinforced my commitment to making engineering both fun and accessible. Known for my organization, attention to detail, and effective teaching methods, I am excited to bring this course back for a new group of participants.
