In this course, you’ll embark on an exciting journey to explore how humans and more-than-humans (animals, plants, insects, and the environment) are deeply connected. This interactive experience will challenge you to rethink how we, as humans, relate to other beings and recognize that we are all part of a larger, interconnected world. Through activities like art, storytelling, and poetry, you’ll engage with more-than-human perspectives, and explore our relationship with the natural world. With guest lectures, a fun field trip, and creative projects, you’ll leave inspired to break down human exceptionalism and respect all life forms in the interconnected world.
Biography
I am a first-year PhD student in the Faculty of Education at the University of Ottawa, where I am investigating the connections between education, ecology, and human non-human animals relationships. I completed my Bachelors and Masters in Zoology, followed by my Bachelors and Masters in Education. Before embarking on my doctoral journey, I spent five years as a secondary school science teacher. After a successful mini-course last year which focused on ecosystems in the Ontario forest region, I am excited to return with a new course this year that will explore the relationship between our society and the animals.
