Course Description

The following ""Ethics Unplugged: Decoding the Moral Code of Artificial Intelligence (AI)"" course is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the ethical considerations surrounding the development and implementation of various weak and strong AI technologies.

AI is defined as technology or machinery that possesses the skills to complete various tasks that require some degree of ""human-like"" intelligence. While AI was once a thrilling topic in science fiction movies and novels, it is now infiltrating our everyday lives. As AI continues to advance and improve exponentially, it is important to consider various ethical challenges that may arise from its implementation.

Thus, throughout the current course, students will explore various ethical considerations of AI. They will examine this topic on a macro and micro- social level. Seminar topics include AI and biases, rights for AI, privacy concerns, moral responsibility/agency, AI and consciousness, and interpersonal relationships with AI systems. In addition to this, students shall explore the impact of AI on relevant real-world problems such as employment and social equity. This shall be done through lecture-style classes and experiential learning components in the form of regulated debates and an exploration of AI in media.

By the end of the course, we hope students will have developed a strong theoretical and practical foundation on the ethics of AI. Thus, enabling them to critically evaluate and navigate the different ethical challenges that come along with AI technologies both from a philosophical and empirical lens.
