The Student and the State: Using the Law for Social Change

Institution: University of Ottawa (FTX 316)
Category: Faculty of Law
Language: English

Course Description

Have you ever wondered about the law's impact on your life and the lives of those around you? Or wondered whether and how the law can affect social change? In this course, students will learn how the law organizes the world around them and how, in turn, the law can be used to support organizing for change. Students will critically engage with and question the power of the law and the power of social movements through interactive presentations, group activities, guest speakers, and, if possible, a courthouse tour. By the end of the week, students will better appreciate the role they can play in reimagining relationships with the law and the legal system from the ground up.
